Thank You Thursday - Swensons

In 1934 the first official All-American Soap Box Derby race was held. Also in 1934 Wesley T. “Pop” Swenson opened the first Swensons drive-in fast food location in Akron, Ohio. The restaurant chain, with its iconic running car-hops, now has seven locations in the Akron area.

Several years ago the International Soap Box Derby and Swensons formed a partnership. Swensons supports the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship race which will celebrate its 80^th anniversary July 22.

“Swensons is an iconic fixture in Northeast Ohio,” said Derby Vice President Bobby Dinkins. “When people think of Akron the Soap Box Derby and Swensons are at the top of the list and we’re thrilled that we’ve had a partnership over the last several years.”

The Derby would like to say THANK YOU to Swensons for helping us continue our mission of building knowledge and character, and creating meaningful experiences through collaboration and fair and honest competition.
