The ISBD’s Education Program uses the tools and values of Soap Box Derby racing to introduce Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to students in an enjoyable, engaging way.

Building Blocks for Practical Skills

Our Education Program provides fun and engaging STEM learning opportunities for students in grades 3-12. 

These programs offer young learners with hands-on opportunities to build their STEM skills, as well as practical skills that will help them in many facets of life. And there are several programs to choose from! 

GRC STEM Team Competitions

STEM skills in action! The ISBD’s Gravity Racing Challenge (GRC) Team Competitions are opportunities for students in grades 3-12 to compete against other school and teams. Build and race a regulation-sized car, design and race mini cars, or enter a photography or writing competitions. 

Mini Car Program

The ISBD’s Mini-Car Program teaches students STEM with “mini-sized” derby cars and racing. Teams design, build, test and race their cars against other schools and community groups. Our workbook and kit provide about 12 hours of customized, all-inclusive, learning activities and materials.

STEM Summer Camp

Give your camper a summer to remember! Register for the Akron Soap Box Derby STEM Summer Program. Kids 8-13 have a great time with their peers, participating in hands-on STEM projects. They build and race Soap Box Derby regulation and mini-cars and so much more at this week packed full of fun! STEM Summer Camp programs are held at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.
