NewsThank You Thursday - Keep Akron Beautiful05.25.2017 Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1981 to implement a comprehensive litter prevention recycling promotion and beautification program for the City of Akron. One of the annual beautification sites is the world famous Derby Downs track. Each spring KAB volunteers and staff prepare the trackside flower beds for the annual planting of flowers. They then time the planting of the flowers so they are in full bloom for the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby in July. “We are so grateful for the partnership that we have with Keep Akron Beautiful,’ said Derby Vice President Bobby Dinkins. “The staff and volunteers take great pride in the work that they do here at the track. The flowers really add color and pageantry to all of the events that we have throughout the event season, especially for the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby where families annually come from all over the world.” The Derby would like to say THANK YOU to Keep Akron Beautiful for helping us continue our mission of building knowledge and character, and creating meaningful experiences through collaboration and fair and honest competition. This is the 35th installment of our weekly “Thank You Thursday” feature. Each week we will offer a heartfelt “Thank You” to a corporation, civic or community leader, volunteer, foundation or an individual who has helped us continue our mission.
