NewsThank You Thursday - J.W. Didado Electric04.13.2017 Since 1936 gravity has been the sole supplier of power to propel Soap Box Derby cars down the world famous Derby Downs track. Today that is still the case. However, in 2016 electric power was added trackside to help power the many events that take place at the track throughout the year. Akron-based J.W. Didado Electric installed power banks along the 989’ track in an effort to help the Derby enhance the experience at the more than 70 events that it hosts each year. “We’re so grateful to J.W. Didado Electric for their support,” said Derby Events Manager Morgan Garner. “For so long we’ve had to run extension cords up and down the track to at all of our events. It’s so much easier now that we have power trackside. It really helps us provide a more enjoyable experience for the people who come out to take part in what the Derby has to offer.” Started by John W. Didado as a one-man crew in 1958, J. W. Didado Electric is now a recognized leader in the residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and high-voltage electric business as well as a trusted storm restoration partner of many of the country’s largest electric utilities. A member of the Quanta Services family of companies, J.W. Didado has the financial strength, employees, equipment and bonding capacity to handle the largest and most complex projects. J.W. Didado employees average almost 30 years of service and have the expertise and experience that enables them to handle any job, large or small and to excel under the most difficult conditions. The Derby would like to say THANK YOU to J.W. Didado Electric for helping us continue our mission of building knowledge and character, and creating meaningful experiences through collaboration and fair and honest competition.
