Local History

Soap box derby began in the Roanoke Valley in 1936 and races were run at the Roanoke Drag Strip. Races ran until 1970. There was a revival in 1980 for 20 years. The most recent rebirth of soap box in the area began in 2010 with the creation of Star City Soap Box Derby and racing began in 2011.

Champions

Star City Soap Box Derby is the proud home of two World Champions, Sabrina Engleman (rally super stock) and Annabelle Herron (Local stock), and a second and thrid place finisher, Katelyn Harris, at the All American Soap Box Derby.
