About Us The River City Soap Box Derby (RCSBD) has proven to be a fun, exciting and rewarding event for everyone involved. This includes area businesses, event sponsors, spectators, parents and especially our youth who participate as the drivers on race day. Preparations are now underway for the 2019 season. The River City Soap Box Derby Races are scheduled for Saturday June 8, 2019 in Lakebottom. That’s right – races! There will be two (2) races: an educational race and the inaugural Local Race. The Local Race will highlight these racers: Mariah, Devon, Savon, Jaylen, Crystal, Leo, Logan, Zyon, Tykerion, Toni, D’Ambri, and Janiah. We’ll track them on their journey to Akron. Only one of them will go. Who are you rooting on? Racers not yet ready for such advanced competition still have an opportunity to race in the educational race. There are 12 slots available in this race. A total of 24 racers will grace the hill of Lakebottom in Midtown on June 8. We need you there! These racing districts conduct sanctioned Soap Box Derby races throughout the year and qualify champs for the annual FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby® World Championship race at the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio. The Derby's Education Program is a fast-growing component of the organization and includes a STEM-Based Curriculum, the Gravity Racing Challenge® STEM Team Competition and a Mini Soap Box Derby program. The Derby also operates the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio where events are held throughout the racing season. The Board of Directors oversees the operation of the Derby, and the day-to-day activities are handled by the Headquarters staff in Akron.
