About Us Soap Box Derby Racing Alive and Well in Colorado Springs! The goals of the Soap Box Derby Program are to promote families working together to teach young people basic skills of workmanship along with the spirit of competition and the perseverance to continue a project to completion. Each driver (age 7 - 21) must build their own car, with adult help, to qualify to race. What Build your own race car and drive it in competition! Who Boys and girls ages 7 through 21 are eligible. Why To build valuable skills in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and compete! Trophies for all contestants.Winners go to Akron, Ohio to compete in the Internation Soap Box Derby, partial expenses paid! When Pre-inspection and Practice: First Sunday in June - 9am to Finish Final Inspection and Impound Day is Second SaturdayRace Day is Second Sunday in June - First Race at 8:05am to finish. Where East of downtown Colorado Springs on Costilla St. between Wahsatch and El Paso (Map) Rules 1. Racer must register on International forms for local races proof of age required2. Racer must build own car with help and advice from adults as needed per the rules of AASBD (Link for each division)3. Must build car using kit purchased from International Soap Box Derby (Link to store)4. Cars may be "Masters", "Super Stock" or "Stock" Divisions and use only Z - Glas wheels5. Cars must pass inspection before competing Registration Deadline May 1. To register, click on the Registration Form block and it will open in your browser. Then download it to your computer and email it to pikespeak at soapboxderby.org Sponsors Racers are encouraged to obtain a sponsor to help defray the cost of the kit. Sponsors may advertise on the car. A limited number of sponsorships will be available, check with the Director. These racing districts conduct sanctioned Soap Box Derby races throughout the year and qualify champs for the annual FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby® World Championship race at the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio. The Derby's Education Program is a fast-growing component of the organization and includes a STEM-Based Curriculum, the Gravity Racing Challenge® STEM Team Competition and a Mini Soap Box Derby program. The Derby also operates the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio where events are held throughout the racing season. The Board of Directors oversees the operation of the Derby, and the day-to-day activities are handled by the Headquarters staff in Akron.
