The Owensboro Lions Club began sponsoring and conducting Soap Box Derby local races in 2001 as a fundraiser.  Races were conducted on a city street that was closed for the weekend...a lot of work by a lot of great Lions Club volunteers was involved!

A permanent track was built in 2011 in partnership with the City of Owensboro.  The track is located in a beautiful park setting...Ben Hawes Park.  This new track is very close to the site of an earlier permanent track located in Owensboro that was in use from 1951 until 1964.

Many improvements have been made over the past four years...including a real improvement in the runout!

There were no Rally Races until 2012.  There are currently three Rally Races held in Owensboro...April, August and September.  We appreciate all the families that have traveled to race on this fast track.  Here is a recent article...

The funds raised from Owensboro Lions Club Soap Box racing events are used to support Lions International, the Lions Eye Foundation, other local charitable organizations as well as educational institutions.  Please visit our website, www.owensborolions.com, to learn more about how Lions serve!
