Incorporated, Not-for-Profit Serves: Kids ages 4 to 18 in the West Garfield Park area on Chicago’s west side, as well as children who travel from other communities to partake in activities at the Clubhouse and the Camp. Off The Street Club serves all children regardless of race, religion or geographic boundaries. Staff: Executive Director: Ralph Campagna, who grew up at the Club. Associate Director Arnett Morris and other truly dedicated staff members also grew up at the Club and are products of its value system. Mission of the Club: Be an alternative to violent street gangs that plague OTSC’s neighborhood and fight for every kid. Be an after school place where kids can be kids, where they laugh and play, relax and have fun, and learn traditional American values. Be a bridge from a disadvantaged beginning to the mainstream of American life so these children can grow up to become productive citizens. Activities: Value training, sports of each season, field trips, special events, music, dance, drama, arts, crafts, woodshop, cooking, tutoring, Career Club, work and scholarship programs, Teen Leadership Training Club which does community service work for area senior citizens, holiday parties and much more. At CampMathieu the children enjoy swimming, boating, horseback riding, cookouts, hiking, camp fires, nature study as well as fun-filled winter weekend activities in season. Facilities: At our inner-city Clubhouse: gymnasium, arts and crafts room, woodshop, games room with ping pong/billiards and more, library with encyclopedia sets for each age group, computer lab, girls center, dance & music room, kitchen, padded play room, performing arts center, teen meeting room, soap box derby racing and Jack and Jill room for tots. At Camp Mathieu, our beautiful, secluded resident camp on thirty wooded acres in the southwest corner of Wheaton, Illinois: swimming pool, hiking & biking trails, year-round heated boys dormitory, girls dormitory, recreation hall, fully equipped dining hall, activity pond, sports fields, arts & crafts gazebo, camp fire circle and more. These racing districts conduct sanctioned Soap Box Derby races throughout the year and qualify champs for the annual FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby® World Championship race at the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio. The Derby's Education Program is a fast-growing component of the organization and includes a STEM-Based Curriculum, the Gravity Racing Challenge® STEM Team Competition and a Mini Soap Box Derby program. The Derby also operates the world famous Derby Downs Track in Akron, Ohio where events are held throughout the racing season. The Board of Directors oversees the operation of the Derby, and the day-to-day activities are handled by the Headquarters staff in Akron.
