Athens,TN Soap Box Derby
Welcome! Soap Box Derby racing is an event that the whole family can enjoy. Each participant will use Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to prepare their car to race.
The 2023 Athens Soap Box Derby was held on June 3, 2023. Our 2023 Champions will be racing at the World Championships from July 15-22.
In 1995, the Athens Parks & Recreation Department held the first local Soap Box Derby race, and since that time, Athens has sent 25 champions in the Stock, 22 champions in the Super Stock, and 11 champions in the Super Kids divisions to the world championships in Akron, Ohio. Each year, over 30 drivers in the local race compete to be the champion that gets to make their mark on Akron.

A message from the All-American Soap Box Derby
The Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934. World Championship finals are held each July at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.
The idea of the Soap Box Derby grew out of a photographic assignment of Dayton, Ohio, newsman Myron Scott. He covered a race of boy-built cars in his home community and was so impressed with this event that he acquired a copyright for the idea and began development of a similar program on a national scale.
