Figuring Extra Weight for Your Soap Box Derby Car

Weights can and should be added to your Soap Box Derby car after the building process is complete.
Below are tips on adding weight to your car:

Stock Car – Tech Tips on adding fixed weight and adjustable weights to your car

Stock cars can accommodate a racer up to (approximately) 5’3” tall and 125 lbs. The car weighs approximately 70 lbs. put together with Z-Glas® wheels. The combined weight of the assembled car and the driver shall not exceed 200 lbs. including the Z-Glas® wheels. A combined weight of less than 200 lbs. may be increased by the addition of owner provided weight. Example: – Maximum weight is 200 lbs. – Stock car weighs approximately 70 lbs. – Your driver weighs 90 lbs. – Can add 40 lbs. of weights to car.

Super Stock Car – Tech Tips on adding fixed weight and adjustable weights to your car

Super Stock cars can accommodate a larger racer up to (approximately) 6’0” tall and 150 lbs. The car weighs approximately 73 lbs. put together with Z-Glas® wheels. The combined weight of the assembled car and the driver shall not exceed 240 lbs. including the Z-Glas® wheels. A combined weight of less than 240 pounds may be increased by the addition of owner provided weight. Example: – Maximum weight is 240 lbs. – Super Stock car weights approximately 73 lbs. – Your driver weighs 120 lbs. – Can add 47 lbs. of weights to car.
