Ken Morrow became involved in Soap Box Derby racing when his son Jesse first competed in the Akron local in 1987. Since then, he has contributed in a wide variety of ways to the betterment of the Soap Box Derby program. He served on the Akron local board of directors from 1988 through 1991, was a board member of the All-American Soap Box Derby from 1994 through 2007, and has served on the national control board since 1992 and the rally commission since 2003. Ken Morrow was instrumental in “connecting” the world to Derby Downs in 2000, when he helped establish the Internet team whose efforts have led to live webcasting of Race Week activities. And, to encourage older youngsters and young adults to test their ingenuity in racer design and engineering, Ken Morrow helped to create the Ultimate Speed Challenge in 2004.
