As public relations and promotion director of the Rochester (New York) Times-Union, Ira Sapozink contributed boundless energy and enthusiasm to a wide array of civic causes. His favorite activity was the Soap Box Derby. At the time of his death in 1963, he was chairman of the All-American Soap Box Derby’s control and rules committee. Ira Sapozink served as director of the Rochester Soap Box Derby for 26b years, during which Rochester proudly produced two All-American champions: Richard Rohrer (1955) and Norman Westfall (1956).
