As an 11-year old contestant from Muncie, Ind., Bob Turner won the first All-American Soap Box Derby in Dayton in 1934. For more than six decades until his death in 1995, he served as a loyal and enthusiastic ambassador for the youth racing program by encouraging local communities to stage races and youngsters to build and race cars.
