Former Regional Director George Rodenbaugh Has Died

George Rodenbaugh, who served as a regional director for the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby for nearly three decades, died on October 18.  He was 85.

George was a Philadelphia Police Department police officer for 20 years. After retiring from the police force, he served as a security consultant and investigator. He and his wife Phyllis lived in North Wales, Pennsylvania, a Philadelphia suburb.

His first association with the Soap Box Derby was as a competitor in the 1952 race in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.  He volunteered in local Soap Box Derby events for many years and, in 1986, he became director for Region VIII covering five states and the District of Columbia. He was named chairman of the regional directors in 2000 and retired as a regional director in 2013. George was inducted into the Soap Box Derby Hall of Fame in 2009.

In addition to his wife Phyllis, he is survived by four daughters and five grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call after 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 Cowpath Road, Lansdale, PA 19446. George’s Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ethan Doan officiating. Interment will follow at the Beulah Cemetery, New Britain, PA.
