AKRON SOAP BOX DERBY HOSTS GIRLS STEM DAY APRIL 27

We are full for 2024! Registration is now closed.
Thank you to everyone who registered. We look forward to seeing you!

AKRON, Ohio (April 9, 2024) – International Soap Box Derby (ISBD) is inviting middle-school-aged girls to participate in the “Girls Racing to STEM” workshop at Derby Downs, in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday, April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Sponsored by the Women’s Endowment Fund, an Akron Community Foundation fund, the workshop is open to girls in grades 5-8 and there is no cost to attend. Registration is limited to 28 participants.

“This workshop is an ideal opportunity to introduce the basics of STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math) in a fun and hands-on experience,” said Scott Taylor, ISBD president and chief executive officer.

Taylor said girls will have the opportunity to attend STEM presentations by The University of Akron’s College of Engineering, explore Derby Downs in search of historic sites and markers, build and race 1/13-scale model Soap Box Derby Mini-Cars and test drive a regulation full-size Soap Box Derby car down the famous Derby Downs track.
